Think
of the nose as a tent open at both ends with a thin wall running down
the middle. The cartilage of the left and right nostrils are the two
sides of the tent, while the septum is the wall dividing them.
When all
is working well, air flows smoothly through the two sides. If you inhale
rapidly, both sides of the nose collapse slightly, limiting the inflow
of air. The harder you inhale, the more likely the nostrils will collapse
further. (This is called the Venturi effect.) As a consequence, the
nasal passage tends to obstruct while asleep and often results in the
sound of snoring.
The area
of the nose most critical for proper airflow is the place where the
sides of the nostrils meet the septum in the middle near the front;
this is the upper part of the nasal valve. The NoseWorks(TM) nasal support
acts in this area to comfortably prevent nasal collapse when you inhale,
serving to improve the overall ease of breathing and prevent unwanted
snoring. Just attach the little lightweight device as illustrated and
breathe more easily!
Who Will Benefit?
Men and women who wish to decrease unwanted snoring and sleep more peacefully.
•
Physically active people --runners, yoga practitioners, athletes, or
anyone engaged in aerobic exercise --who want to increase nasal air
flow.
What
Are the Benefits?
For people
with difficulty breathing due to nasal airway obstruction:
•
Comfortably improves breathing while asleep or during physical exercise.
•
Frequently decreases snoring and may reduce the chances of sleep apnea.
(Not
a treatment for sleep apnea, consult your MD)
•
Eliminates dryness as a result of mouth breathing.
•
Increases overall moisture in the mouth and throat resulting in better
breath, fewer sore throats, and less chance of gum disease.
•
Improves overall nasal airflow to reduce discomfort associated with
nasal congestion.
•
Facilitates optimal nasal breathing during extended dental procedures.
•
Provides a more comfortable alternative for individuals currently using
adhesive-spring nasal dilators.
NOTE:
The NoseWorks(TM) nasal support is not intended as a cure for sleep
apnea. Please consult your physician for treatment of this condition.
